With over 20 years of experience as a researcher, educator, trainer, and practicing attorney, Alan Dickinson brings a unique blend of skills to Clarity Legal Group. His practice areas include litigation for Long-Term Care Insurance denials, Special Needs Trusts, Business Succession Planning, and Estate Planning. Alan’s comprehensive approach ensures clarity and peace of mind for clients facing complex and sensitive legal challenges.
Alan is deeply committed to his clients and their families, focusing on creating lasting relationships and guiding them through the intricacies of planning for their futures. His personal experiences have taught him that preparing for life’s transitions is essential to one’s legacy.
Alan’s expertise extends to contract negotiation, conflict resolution, and business development. Before joining Clarity Legal Group, he served as the lead client relations and business development executive for a statewide law firm, gaining a keen understanding of the intersection between legal practice and business strategy.
Community Service
Alan is a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities. He serves on the board of Able to Serve and as vice-chair of the board of B3 Coffee, organizations dedicated to fostering inclusion and support for people with disabilities. Additionally, Alan contributes to Farewell Earth, a nonprofit redefining how communities approach end-of-life care, ensuring dignity and inclusivity during these significant moments.
In addition to his advocacy work, Alan is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association and has volunteered his leadership skills with the YMCA of the Triangle, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, and United Church of Chapel Hill. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Legal Marketing Association’s Advocacy Committee.
Education
Alan earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Wake Forest University in 1998, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the T.K. Hearn Scholarship for Excellence in Leadership & Service. He graduated with high honors from Duke University School of Law, earning his Juris Doctor in 2001. At Duke, Alan contributed as a staff editor for Law & Contemporary Problems and later clerked for The Honorable Susan Harrell Black on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
